For infants under the age of six months, the assessor will need to know how to correlate these assessments with a specialised HATLFF tool (Hazelbaker Assessment of Tongue & Lingual Frenulum Function Tool)
So as you can see, tongue tie assessment is quite complex & only skilled health care professionals are capable of providing an accurate diagnosis.
Questions to ask your health care provider:
1. Do you perform a HATLFF (pronounced "Hatliff")
2. Do you know about the impact of tongue ties on feeding as well as my baby's health in the long term?
3. What are my options, if I don't want my baby to have a frenectomy?
